      A determination by technical specs of certain devices. The quality
      of an output device is measured in dots per inch and pages per
      minute; the quality of a monitor is measured by maximum resolution,
      scan frequency, and dot pitch.
 
 quality of service (QOS)
 
      Measurement of the telephone service provided to a subscriber;
      i.e., connection clarity or loudness, etc.
 
 quantization noise
 
      Signal errors that result from the code-derived facsimile not
      exactly matching the waveform of the original message (i.e. noise
      resulting from digitizing a continuously variable signal).
 
 quarter common intermediate format (QCIF)
 
      A subset of the coded video signals transmitted when using Rec.

      Process by which a master station asks a slave station to identify

      A predefined set of rules and syntax that must be used to properly
      retrieve information from a database. Structured Query Language

      Excessive demand on a system at any given point in time creates
      queues, which are lists of items waiting for processing in a
      predefined order (i.e., LIFO, FIFO, or priority).
 
 queue management
 
      Queue management sorts out requests from the network by priority.
 
 queuing
 
      The act of holding incoming calls until an attendant, trunk, trunk
      group or desired station is available. Also called camping.
