Enables a single installation to run multiple end-user Web sites simultaneously and to share components between sites. Sites contain pages, PortalBeans, and all of the other display components of a Vignette Portal installation. Designated users can "snap" together sites from a repository of prefabricated components, in addition to building new components. These features are implemented through a graphical user interface.
Unlike the generally held notion of a Web site, a Vignette Portal site is not defined by the domain in which it operates (although each site can be associated with one or more domains). A Vignette Portal site is a collection of administrable objects that have a shared look and feel, shared set of navigation links, and an administrative group that automatically receives permissions to administer all or nearly all of the objects within the site. The unifying identity and purpose of a site are not imposed by Vignette Portal, but rather are created and maintained by administrative groups.
